Alanna Finnan; B App Sc (OT)
Alanna Finnan has gained extensive experience in spinal cord injury rehabilitation throughout her 12 years working at the Royal North Shore Hospital Spinal Injury Unit and Royal Rehab Spinal Injury Unit.
Working in these spinal units has given Alanna specialist experience in providing occupational therapy services to people following spinal cord injury. Her favourite areas of practice are in complex home modifications, hand splinting and hand therapy and advanced wheelchair skills training.
Additional to her clinical role at Royal North Shore Hospital, she trained many occupational therapists in the area of spinal cord injury rehabilitation. Alanna was a senior specialist occupational therapist for her last 7 years at Royal North Shore Hospital.
In 2012, Alanna co-authored the occupational therapy modules for the web-based educational resource for the International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS). ISCoS developed this multi-disciplinary learning platform so that health professionals around the world can have access to spinal cord injury training and resources. Alanna co-authored the occupational therapy modules with her two colleagues.
Alanna is a driver trained occupational therapist, enabling her to conduct comprehensive on-road driving assessments to ascertain a persons’ fitness to drive following an injury or disability. She trials and recommends various modifications to enable people with a disability to return to driving. Alanna is very passionate about the area of return to driving.
